Christmas in Louisiana part 3

When Ashlea was in kindergarten, her class read a book titled "Grandma's Latkes" in which there was a recipe for latkes that the class made and ate. Since then, Ashlea has wanted latkes again and again! My mom told me that her boss, Mike, was making latkes for the synagogue in town, so I begged her to see if he could make us some. Mike was gracious enough to agree to have us over for latkes even though I am sure he was sick of them after doing a hundred or more the Friday before! Ashlea had the privilege of lighting the Hanakuh candle that night, and we all said the prayer - in English.

Here is Mike grating the potatoes which to me is the worst part of making latkes. I was just envisioning myself with bleeding fingertips or knuckles because that is something I would end up doing.

Here are the yummy latkes frying up!

The latkes were absolutely fabulous, and if you have never eaten them, you absolutely have to one day! They are extremely filling, but Alysse (my picky eater) actually ate two! Thank you Mike for sharing your latkes with us! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves that evening!

After we brought our stuffed bellies back to Mom and Dad's, this is what the tree looked like. The cats seemed to enjoy our absence!
